From iron ore, oil, gas, gold and aluminium, the abundance of resources in our State is often credited as being the ‘backbone’ of our economy.

Discover how our State’s resources are gathered and processed, learn about the benefits for the people of WA, explore the sustainability impacts and initiatives, and take a look at the technology which is transforming the resources sector – and shaping the jobs of tomorrow.

Produced in partnership with the Resources Technology Showcase 2019, these resources support the WA Curriculum: Science, HASS and English.

Thanks to support from RTS2019, schools will not be invoiced.

Most schools* will automatically receive one class set inside the October 27 and November 3 & 10 editions of The Sunday Times (35 copies).

Includes activities, merit stickers and posters for your class.

Please allow one to two days for delivery. Orders must be placed by 10am on the Friday prior to first delivery date. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate back orders.



October 27: The wealth of our State

Where are our resources, and why are they important to WA? Find out about the diversity of our mineral, metal and energy resources – and how we’ve come to discover these valuable deposits.

November 3: Out of the ground

Learn about mine sites, the people who work on them and amazing machinery they use, and consider some of the challenges facing mine operators today.

November 10: Shifting, making, using

Explore what happens to raw materials once they are brought to the surface. Investigate some challenges associated with ore processing, innovations in transport, and the future of mining in WA.

Bringing STEM to life: mining, oil and gas like you never imagined

For two days in November the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre will be transformed by futuristic and thoroughly interactive displays of world-class robotics, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, autonomous vehicles and remote operations centres.

Students and teachers will experience a behind-the-scenes look at the technology which is transforming the resources sector – and shaping the jobs of tomorrow.

This excursion supports the WA Curriculum: Science, Technologies and HASS.
